Regulation on Detergents |
The new detergent Regulation came into force on 8 October 2005. This Regulation consolidated the existing legislation about the biodegradability and labelling of detergents by combining the five Directives and single Regulation then in operation. This new Regulation broadened the definition of detergents and specified test methods for assessing the biodegradability of all types of detergent surfactants. The Regulation also specifies the information required on detergent packaging, relating to ingredients, instructions for use and special precautions, if necessary. The key change, compared with the previous legislation, is that this new Regulation makes manufacturers responsible for having the prescribed information about the biodegradability of the surfactants available to Member States. The new Regulation has had very limited consequences for key E.T.S.A. suppliers, as they already fulfil the documentation demands requested. |
